Makaela Shade-Alexander is a graduate of Montclair State University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Performance.

Makaela was raised in Washington D.C. where she developed her love for music. She started picking up instruments around the age of 10, playing the violin until she was about 15 years old. She attended Duke Ellington School of the Arts High School where she studied voice graduating in 2016.

In 2022, Makaela participated in the two-month AIMS (American Institute of Musical Studies) program in Austria, dedicating her time to developing her instrument and broadening her knowledge of music.
