First Notes Early Childhood Music Classes

Meet our teachers! Trial classes are available for new students. Register for a trial class.

First Notes family classes are led by talented teachers who engage parents and children in musical learning activities covering rhythm, counting, movement, and pitch-matching skills.

  • Children and their parents/caregivers learn to play three instruments - Their voices, djembe drums, and resonator bells.

  • Infants and Babies - In this important stage of early development, infants and babies internalize music and rhythm while parents and caregivers learn songs and activities to practice with their child outside of classes. During classes, we show parents and caregivers how to sing, play drums and resonator bells, and how to practice these with child to reinforce learning.

  • Toddlers - As children begin to stand, walk, and speak, they begin to sing and play the instruments with their own hands. Parents and caregivers continue to assist children in classes to help them sing and play the instruments.

  • Preschoolers - As children become able to perform musical activities independently, we provide the opportunity for them to sing and play instruments without assistance and serve as role models by demonstrating for their classmates.
